Balancing practicality and color, a lighthearted way

Momo and Hina Morita
Founders of HER NEON
Among the Nychair X lineup, Nychair X 80 was introduced in 1980 as a chair designed to be lighter, more compact, and easier to sit down in and stand up from, thanks to its seat height. We have visited three creators and their households who have recently incorporated Nychair X 80 as a part of their interiors and daily lives. Each of them brings their own unique, expressive lifestyle, and the way Nychair X 80 blends into those spaces shows three completely distinct styles of living. The chair has made their relaxation time feel freer and richer.
This a vol. 3 of 3.

Hina: “I wanted to incorporate touches of blue throughout the room, so I chose a blue that matched the rug I’d laid down. At first, I was torn between that and camel, but since our sofa is brown, I thought a different color for the Nychair X 80 would be better. I like using primary colors like blue, red, and yellow in interiors—they’re uplifting.”
Momo: “My favorite color is blue, so I love how cute it looks. I move it around depending on how I’m using it—sometimes in the center of the room, sometimes next to the sofa. I’ll sit here to read a book or place my laptop on my lap to work. Unlike the sofa, we tend to sit in the Nychair X 80 when we want to focus on something alone.”

Momo and Hina Morita, twin sisters who run the apparel brand HER NEON, started the brand in their senior year of university after a handmade smartphone case they created for a friend gained popularity. Now in its eighth year, the brand continues to grow—mainly online, but also with seasonal pop-up stores in cities like Tokyo and Osaka, expanding their reach. The two of them divide all aspects of the business—from planning and design to managing the online store, promoting the brand, and even inventory control.
They’ve been living together in an apartment within a housing complex known for being a home to many professionals in creative fields of work, and for the freedom that residents have over renovations and home alterations. It's been four years now, and “work” remains the core idea that transcends into their living space and interior design choices.

Hina: “We wanted to be able to store a lot of inventory, so we had a shelf custom-built by someone in architecture who lives in the same building. This room is mainly for work, so I chose furniture based on whether they’re practical and suit the space. I usually make the decisions, and Momo does the final check.”
Even if their opinions differ at times, they always end up finding a solution good for both of them—an example of classic twin synergy. With no formal background in fashion or industry connections, they launched the brand independently, which has only strengthened their bond. Hina handles the planning, styling, and storytelling to communicate the brand’s world, while Momo manages social media, inventory, orders, and photoshoots. They constantly communicate, playing to each other's strengths and naturally filling in for each other’s weaknesses.

Momo: “We’re the type who focus on growing each other’s strengths. There’s no point in fighting—it’s always been like this since we were kids.”
Hina: “We share our plans for the next day the night before, and once we’ve finished our tasks for the day, we each spend our time however we want. Our hobbies and interests outside of work are totally different, but sometimes we randomly bump into each other at the same bar without planning it! (laughs)”
Even as they pour their hearts into their steadily growing brand, the sisters maintain a healthy distance from fashion itself. While their room is filled with beautiful and charming items, they surprisingly don’t pay much attention to material things, and it reflects in their unique style.

Hina: “I love clothes, but I’m not into designer labels at all, and I wouldn’t say fashion is my hobby. It’s because it’s part of my work that I can keep doing it. I feel like it’s my calling.”
Momo: “We don’t make clothes for ourselves—we make them to bring happiness to others. That’s why we’re not overly attached to things, and we both prefer to live lightly. We don’t really have that ‘I could never let this go’ kind of feeling.”
Hina: “We recently got a dog, so I’d love to design pet accessories in the future. And if one of us has a child someday, I’d want to make kids’ items, too.”
And just like that, new ideas for work keep bubbling up from this room. Supporting their creative journey is the blue Nychair X 80, quietly standing by. From this space, the things they create will go on to make even more people happy.
