Name: Masami-Charlotte Lavault ● Activity: Flower farmer ● Location: Floral farm & studio ● City: Paris, France ● Product: Nychair X 80

After working as a product designer in London, Masami-Charlotte Lavault was disappointed by the non-durable use of materials. Eventually, Masami-Charlotte turned herself towards something more essential: flower farming in urban environments, and created Plein Air, a floral farm in Paris.

‘I didn’t know anything about agriculture before, but I travelled to Morocco and the UK to learn about local biodynamic farms. I’ve also worked at an experimental farm in Okinawa that uses microorganisms. Every day I learnt so much from the way plants flexibly adapt to their environment and soil conditions.’

Masami-Charlotte took the Nychair X 80 with her this morning from her studio to the farm, which is only a 10 min walk. Its lightweight makes it easy to carry in the street and within the farm. ‘There are 350 different species of flowers at Plein Air. Some from Mexico, South Africa, Everest, Japan…’

In the wooden shed near the farm’s entrance, there are some pottery, small bottles of microorganisms, and a few gardening tools. ‘I want to have as few things as possible, so I carefully select simple tools that can be used for a variety of purposes. It’s the same at home. I only have a limited amount of furniture. I’ve recently been renovating my studio. It’s a small space, but I take my time and enjoy the process.’

In Masami-Charlotte’s minimalist lifestyle, the Nychair X 80 is used as a chair when working at a desk, and as a lounge chair to relax after a day of work at the farm. Its light terracotta colour matches perfectly with her simple studio that is under renovation.

When folded, Nychair X 80 stands on its own, thanks to a small cord attached to one of the armrests. It is quick and easy to fold and unfold, adapting seamlessly to Masami-Charlotte’s activitiesat the farm.

Thanks to its folding design, the Nychair X 80 doesn’t take up much space. It gives Masami-Charlotte extra room in her studio whenever she needs to work while standing.

Nychair X 80 fits with the unfinished interior of Masami-Charlotte’s studio, which is currently under renovation. Its bright terracotta fabric adds colour to the white room. The simplicity of its design means that it is also likely to fit into the studio once the renovation is completed.

Comfort to carry around

Light and compact, Nychair X 80 can be placed on a variety of grounds. The curved shape of its legs keeps it stable even on small pebbles or grass outdoors. With a wide seating surface, Nychair X 80 offers extra comfort to Masami-Charlotte Lavault when she’s taking a break. The seat was designed to be slightly tilted backwards, so that one naturally leans their back against the chair when seated. The unique fabric is thick
and sturdy—the wide seat surface wraps the body. It is a comfortable seat suitable for rest and relaxation.
